Three Pillars
The M.D. Investigator
Dr. Steven Schechter is a board-certified neurologist and an Associate Professor at the Oakland University William Beaumont Medical School, where he balances clinical research with a dedication to teaching.
After earning his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School in 1987, he completed an internship at William Beaumont Hospital, neurology residencies at the Detroit Medical Center and Henry Ford, and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
Currently on staff at William Beaumont (Corewell Health) and Havenwyck Hospitals, Dr. Schechter specializes in movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, dementia, and headache.
He is the author of Parkinson’s Disease: A Patient Guide and is a vocal health and fitness advocate who enjoys yoga and running.
A More Holistic Approach to Medicine
Over a decade ago, a challenging Hot Vinyasa class sparked a transformative journey for Dr. Schechter, eventually leading him to complete 500 hours of advanced teacher training in Southern India.
Driven by the belief that standard Western medicine often prioritizes symptom management over root causes, he integrates the holistic philosophies of Yoga and Ayurveda into his neurological practice.
Today, he shares this journey of gratitude and healing with his patients and the local community, bridging the gap between clinical expertise and mindful wellness.

An Evolving Life in Motion
An avid athlete and health advocate, Dr. Schechter began his marathon journey just four years ago and has already completed 24 races, including four world majors Berlin, Chicago, New York and Sydney.
Beyond his own training, he participates in the weekly Gazelle Run Club, mentoring runners of all levels from 5K to 10K distances and beyond.
Driven by the philosophy that "if you wait until you're ready, you'll never feel prepared," he views endurance training as a powerful metaphor for life—encouraging others to embrace every challenge as a purposeful pilgrimage.
